Our experience in the environmental and geotechnical sector dates back to 1998, having worked for various independent and 'global' consultancies on contaminated land, waste management, nuclear and geotechnical related projects. Born out of the last financial crash, Groundsmiths was established in 2009 to serve Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire given the lack of 'client focused' consulting engineers. Since then we have completed over 450 projects and have developed close working relationships with a client base of private developers and national housebuilders who are involved with the regeneration of brownfield and greenfield sites for commercial, industrial and residential end use. We have also worked with numerous homeowners who have either extended or completed new self-build projects.

Our work centres on providing timely solutions to problems associated with the redevelopment of land that is often affected by mining legacy, geotechnical issues as well as soil, groundwater and ground gas contamination. We encompass all aspects of site characterisation and work closely with a select group of fellow professionals including structural engineers, planning consultants, civils and drainage engineers, slope stability experts and architects who are local to the area, whilst maintaining excellent links with the regulatory officers and building control.
