About Us 

Groundsmiths (UK) Ltd was formed by Andrew Spooner in 2009 after having worked in the private Consulting Engineering sector on geo-environmental related commercial, industrial and residential redevelopment projects.

After completing his first degree in Environmental Geology at Sunderland University in 1995, he went on to complete an MPhil in Environmental Geochemistry at Newcastle University (Newcastle Research Group, Fossil Fuels & Environmental Geochemistry) in 2001. Since leaving university he has been employed by a variety of small to medium-sized Consulting Engineers over the past 11 years, working his way up to Principal grade Environmental Geologist (at the now defunct Abatech International Ltd).

The company was set-up to primarily provide 'sub-consultant' services to mainstream Consulting Engineers and Environmental Consultants, providing assistance with, but not limited to, geo-environmental report writing (Phase I/II environmental assessments), quantitative groundwater and human health risk assessment, project management, remediation supervision and site investigation works for example. We are also able however to undertake site investigation works, soils testing, validation works and rotary drilling investigations as part of our work with Ground Support Services.
